Preparation for admission

A special place in the system of education of foreigners in Russia is occupied by preparation for admission.

The organized preparatory courses of the RUDN University for foreigners, as well as other universities in Russia, where there is such a faculty, direct their activities to the study of Russian speech, traditions, orders, as well as to the knowledge of the basics of specialized subjects, their terminology.

It is noteworthy that study at the preparatory faculty ends with testing, as a result of which the foreign applicant either continues to study the specialty or goes home. 

An important nuance: after a “language” faculty, a foreigner does not necessarily remain at the university where he studied Russian. Therefore, here you can save money if you study the language, for example, in the regions (where it is cheaper), and then move to the capital.

By the way, the preparatory department of the university is not the only place where you can improve your language skill. A foreign applicant can learn the Russian language by many different ways like:

  • At accelerated linguistic courses or at a summer school at a university.
  • In a private specialized language school.
  • Remotely on online courses.

It is important to remember that admission of a foreigner to a university with a minimum level of knowledge of the Russian language is possible, although the degree of mastery of the communicative skill is checked by special testing at the university.

Those who successfully completed the tests receive a confirmation of enrollment and an invitation, on the basis of which it is already possible to apply for a study visa.

Invitations and a visa

If you want to study abroad in Russia as a foreign applicant you will need documentary grounds to enter the Russian Federation. For countries with a visa regime for crossing the border, this is a visa, it is issued on the basis of an invitation sent by the university or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. By the way, you can come to pass exams on a tourist visa.

For those who do not need a visa, an invitation is considered the basis for entry. However, it should be borne in mind that you can stay in Russia in a “visa-free” mode only for 3 months, that is, in case of enrollment.
